About our school:
Overstone Park School is seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, including autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, and complex communication difficulties.

Established in 1983, our independent specialist school combines education and therapeutic support within a nurturing environment. Our preparatory provision serves pupils from Reception to Year 6, with secondary and post-16 provision for Years 7–13 at our Maidwell Hall campus.

Our Christian ethos is rooted in “love thy neighbour as yourself” and our belief that we can make a difference.

The role:
Working closely with pupils, families, teachers and other professionals, you will develop communication skills that support learning, relationships, emotional wellbeing and independence.
  • Assessing pupils’ speech, language and communication needs and developing individual therapy programmes.
  • Delivering individual and small-group therapy and supporting communication within classrooms.
  • Supporting non-speaking and minimally speaking pupils through appropriate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
  • Helping staff embed communication strategies and visual supports throughout the school day.
  • Contributing to the delivery and review of speech and language provision specified in pupils’ Education, Health and Care Plans.
  • Setting measurable targets, monitoring progress and maintaining accurate clinical records.
  • Preparing reports and contributing to annual reviews and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Providing practical guidance and training for staff and parents or carers.

About you:
  • A recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy and current HCPC registration.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly autism and complex communication needs.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based assessment, intervention and AAC approaches.
  • The ability to adapt your practice to pupils’ developmental levels, sensory needs and communication preferences.
  • Strong organisational, communication and collaborative working skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, inclusive practice and continuing professional development.
  • Experience within a specialist school and familiarity with TEACCH approaches would be advantageous.

What we offer:
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to pupils’ everyday lives.
  • Close collaboration with teaching, pastoral and therapeutic colleagues.
  • An opportunity to help develop our speech and language therapy provision across both campuses.
